Some people whom I met said that marketing is basically the same as advertising, because both of them have same goal, you perform it in order to get sales. If We briefly seen, it looks like a correct statement. But if We look more in the marketing theory or conventional marketing concept , it is different.

What differences between marketing and advertising?

I want to illustrate you with the picture below:

In picture above, you can see that advertising is subset of marketing. It means that advertising is one of the marketing activities.

Marketing is a process. Marketing’s activities are from researching customer’s need, creating a product or a service based on customer’s need, packaging, branding, planning, advertising, distributing a product via marketing channel, selling, customer engagement, complain handling, generating leads, converting the leads, performing after-sales service, monitoring KPI, making evaluation, improving the strategy, and so on. The conclusion, marketing is the activities start from product creation, packaging and labeling, creating distribution channel, until the product is used by people/customer. The process is continual process. So, after people use your product, you monitor a KPI (key performance indicator that you have defined), then you perform an evaluation/feedback, and finally making improvement for your activities start from beginning.

All the activities above is in marketing process. And advertising is one of this process

Now, I hope you have known the relationship between marketing and advertising and the differences between them.
