I've talked about a career in marketing. Now I will give you
information about how marketing can make you success in career. Now, many graduate students have
the same expertise. Usually they are prepared to come into the professional
world by gaining international certification in their field. For example, IT
professionals in the field of computer network, they get the same certificate such
as CCNA. Therefore, the competition will be more difficult.
How can you win this competition? In order to reach the top,
you can apply marketing concept. I call it marketing way. You can find these concepts
in previous article. Please search for reading that. Remember what I’ve
described in my previous article on the basic marketing concept? This can be
applied to you. I label it marketing yourself. Let me explain briefly how to
apply it, first of all you must conduct a research (like marketing research)
then you will understand the needs of the market (in this case co-workers, boss,
or any stakeholder). After that, you can build a personal brand, marketing and
delivering your skill to stakeholders.
Why implement marketing concept can help you achieve a good
career quickly? Great skill will be useless if you do not apply it to your
work. And if you do not communicate with co-workers and your boss, then they
will not know that you have good skills. If they do not know, then you will be
treated as an ordinary employee. Thus, marketing your skill to the stakeholder,
then you will get promoted quickly. As a conclusion to this paragraph, I'll try
to explain you so that you can use the key of marketing principles and concepts
(my term is marketing way) so you can get a good position in your company.
I describe the steps to implement marketing way below:
Marketing research
As I mentioned in paragraph two, first you have to conduct
research. In this stage you can use a SWOT analysis to determine your strengths
and weaknesses. You can analyze in order to find out what is desired by
stakeholders. Therefore, you can use your skill to meet stakeholder needs.
Personal branding
After knowing the trend of the needs of your stakeholders,
then you must build a powerful personal branding. How? by building and applying
skills and character to meet the needs of stakeholders in your company. These character
and skill will make you unique among the other employees. They will consider
you the best professional.
Advertising
No matter how good your skill and character, without
communicating it to stakeholders, especially your boss, then this would be pointless.
Therefore, you must create advertising. You should be marketing yourself. The tips
is to communicate what you have and will do for the company's growth. Soft
skill required here are: empathy, presentation skills, listening skills,
communication, and negotiation.
You can promote activities in each company, such as in making
a weekly report or monthly report. Character and uniqueness of your skill have
to look here. At the time of presentation, you must communicate your
achievement and suggest in the company. And so on. Distribution channels which
you can use for marketing yourself is the e-mail, active in the mailing list at
your company, actively answering questions by providing solutions in the portal
company when people ask something, active in professional activities both internal
and external companies.
After sales support
You should be able to answer or respond to feedback from
stakeholders. For example supervisor evaluate your work that have not achieved
satisfactory results, you should be responding positively about it. To be
precise, every finished job, try to get feedback from your colleagues and your
boss, whether you ask or do you know yourself from their signs. Once you get feedback,
you should try to give a more innovative solutions so that they are satisfied
with your work.
That is a small marketing concept that you can apply on
working environments. In conclusion, consistent with marketing yourself and run
the marketing way, you will see that your career will shine brightly.
