  • The first step to gain a success in online marketing is define your ultimate goal or objective.

  • Once you set the goal, then you must perform digital marketing activities based on your goals.

  • The fundamental of digital marketing concept is to establish your digital presence and bring more customers to your digital home.

  • Building and establishing digital presence by: local listings, developing mobile apps, building website, setting up social media page.

  • You can list your business in local online, for example: Google My Business.

  • Example digital marketing steps of  Local business :

1. Listing your business in local online directories.

2. Build a website or mobile apps to share information, such as your business, the opening hours, the exact location, product or services, your special offer, etc.

3. Set up social media page, such as: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, etc.

4. Build your content, such as photos, videos, story telling, ebook, infographics, etc o entice new customers walking through your website or social media site.

5. The more engagement with your audiences the more opportunities you will gain turning visitors into paying customers.


  • Example of the relation between your ultimate goal and establishing your digital presence on the website:

1. Suppose your goal is : increase the number of people calling you.
If so, you must include your phone number in every page (and include cta (Call to Action), to encourage visitor to call you) to make the visitors easier to call you.

2. Suppose your goal is: increase the number of people visiting your shop.
If so, you must include your detail address and way to get there. In addition to this, you must embed the map and also driving direction to your shop. Therefore, you must include the proper CTA to do this.

3. Suppose your goal is: visitors buy your products online.
If so, you have to build e-commerce site, including product detail information, form order, merchant account, payment gateway & processor, etc.


  • You have built digital presence, now it's time to bring more customers to you. This is what digital marketing is for. Digital marketing is the answer for how are you going to get customers to find you online.

  • You can expanding the audiences by online advertising or an organic way. But, don't forget to measure your progress in your digital marketing campaign.

  • There are some analysis tool both paid and free. You can measure with a tool that is called analytics. Analytics help you know what campaign is working and what campaign should be tweaked.

  • Several ways to do digital marketing activity:

1. Search Engine Marketing.

The basic of search engine marketing is:

a. People type a keyword in a search engine.
b. If your offer relevant product or service, search engine will show your business in search results.

You can do this by search engine optimization (SEO) to get your business showed in organic result. But you can do this through paid search result (buy ad space in the search result), for example: google ads.

So, you have already known that search engine marketing is different form search engine optimization.

The key success in this type of marketing is by doing a keyword research to comprehend what words people actually type in (the keywords). Knowing these keywords can help you improve your search engine marketing.

2. Social media marketing.

Beside in the search engine, you can perform a marketing campaign in social media site also.

First of all, you have to set up your social media account, create your business page, and create the proper content to give an information and engage with audiences.


3. Email marketing.

First step to perform email marketing is : have people to sign up (opt in) to receive emails from you. Then you can nurture the email lists and convert them into paying customers.

  • Example ways to get people sign up to your email list:
a. offer a special coupons.

b. give away some gifts.

c. promote sale items who can only be informed by email.

d. etc.


Summary of  digital marketing activities:


1. Setting up goal or realistic expectations.

2. Measuring the campaign or tracking your results.

3. Making improvement based on the results.
