- Marketing is mindset. It means a way of performing all actions which is customer-focused action.

- Marketing are actions based on research, multi-discipline, insight-driven, and so on.

The goal of marketing is knowing customer in a such way aspect so that product is suitable and can be sold to him.

Ideally, marketing causes customer ready to buy.

Marketing process contains market opportunity  analysis, research and choose segment market, design marketing strategy, design marketing plan, organize, perform and watch marketing effort.

After we have known the definition of marketing, we can easily to differentiate between marketing and sales.

The difference of marketing and sales

Marketing is more complex that sales, where marketing contains planning process from product design, price determination, make distribution path , and promotion strategy.

Whereas sales is only to sell. Marketing is not only aimed to sell, but also maintain good relation with customer so that they will buy continually or to become loyal customer.

Marketing and Sales: separated but united

In my humble opinion, marketing and sales must coexist. They have to work together to create values for the company and for the customers. I say it is interconnected.

Why do I mention marketing and sales as an interconnected parts? Because they rule is different. They are separate functions within an organization. But, they must work together to increase the values for the people.

What are the effects when Marketing and salespeople work together? There will be an improvement, such as: sales cycles are shorter, the cost of sales decreases, market-entry costs is lower, and so on.
